How to Know It's Not Just a Cold: Warning Signs in Children

Most colds in children resolve on their own within 5-7 days. But sometimes more serious illnesses hide behind the mask of a common cold, requiring immediate medical attention. For emigrant parents in Europe, it's especially important to know these signs to seek help in time.

Typical Cold: What's Normal?

A common cold manifests like this:

  • Runny nose with clear or whitish discharge
  • Mild cough
  • Temperature up to 38-38.5°C for first 2-3 days
  • Slight weakness
  • Sore throat when swallowing
  • Child drinks, plays (though less actively)
  • Condition improves by day 3-5

How long does normal cold last:

  • Temperature: 2-3 days (rarely up to 5 days)
  • Runny nose: 7-10 days
  • Cough: up to 2-3 weeks
  • General weakness: 3-5 days
